GUIDE · LINKEDIN
LinkedIn's "carousels" are document posts: you upload a PDF and readers swipe through its pages in the feed. Here is how to make one that reads well, the limits that apply, and how to post it on a schedule — by hand, or with every page made in your brand for you.
THE SHORT ANSWER
Make your slides at a portrait size (1080 × 1350 is the common choice), export them as one PDF, then start a LinkedIn post, add it as a document, give it a clear title and write a caption whose first line carries the point. LinkedIn takes PDF, PPT(X) and DOC(X) files up to 100 MB and 300 pages, from a personal profile or a company page. To schedule it, use a tool that posts real document posts through LinkedIn's API — many only post the pages as images.
| What LinkedIn allows | |
|---|---|
| File types | PDF, PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX |
| Largest file | 100 MB |
| Most pages | 300 |
| Who can post | Personal profiles and company pages |
| After posting | You can edit the text, not the document |
| Caption | Up to 3,000 characters; roughly the first 140 show on a phone before “…see more” |
| Scheduling | Through LinkedIn's Documents and Posts APIs — check that your tool posts a document, not images |
Plan one idea, one slide per step
A carousel works when every page earns the swipe: a hook on page one, one point per page, and a last page that tells the reader what to do. Six to ten pages is plenty for most ideas.
Design at a portrait size
Portrait pages take more of the feed than square ones; 1080 × 1350 px (4:5) is the common choice. Keep text large enough to read on a phone, and keep your logo and colours on every page.
Export one PDF
Export the pages as a single PDF, in order. Keep it well under LinkedIn's 100 MB limit — big images make slow carousels.
Start a post and add a document
On LinkedIn, start a post, choose to add a document, upload the PDF and give it a clear title — it shows on the carousel.
Write the caption
Put the point in the first line: only about 140 characters show on a phone before “…see more”. Add the takeaway, a question, and your hashtags.
Post, or schedule it
Post now, or use a scheduling tool that supports LinkedIn document posts. If your tool turns the PDF into a set of images, readers get a gallery, not a swipeable document.
A document post asks for a swipe, and every swipe is a small yes. It also lets one post carry a whole explanation — a framework, a checklist, a before-and-after — that a single image cannot.
WITH PAPERFLIGHT
